FAW Military Jiefang MV3 is a new generation of medium-sized high-mobility general-purpose tactical vehicles of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. As the core model of Faw Military Trucks, it made its first public appearance at the military parade commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Fascist War in 2015 and appeared again at the National Day military parade in 2025, demonstrating the strong strength of Faw Military Trucks in the field of national defense equipment. The vehicle family has various drive forms such as 4×4, 6×6 and 8×8, applying six major independent innovation technologies and eight advanced assembly systems, with the characteristics of high mobility, high protection, high adaptability and informatization, fully meeting the harsh indicators of the “eight major fields” proposed by the military, including mobility, survivability and environmental adaptability.

The research and development of MV3 started against the background of the aging technology of domestic active military off-road vehicles, and finally won the bid among FAW, Dongfeng and other parties. The early test vehicles were reported by the media in 2008 and officially named “Shenghu” (Victory Tiger) in October 2016. As a representative product of Faw Military Trucks, MV3 adopts a unified chassis design, which can meet various combat needs such as transportation, firepower mobility, command and reconnaissance, and electronic countermeasures through modification. It has developed a complete vehicle family based on models such as CTM131 and CTM132, jointly constructing a light, medium and heavy three-type general-purpose vehicle platform with Dongfeng “Mengshi” and Shaanxi Automobile HMV3.

In terms of core configuration, the MV3 military truck under Faw Military Trucks performs outstandingly. The 6×6 version is equipped with FAW Xichai CA6DL2-35E3R diesel engine with a rated power of 350 horsepower and a maximum output torque of 1500Nm. It is equipped with a high-pressure common rail fuel supply system independently developed by FAW and an ultra-low temperature water heating heater, which can start smoothly in an extreme environment of minus 41 degrees Celsius; the gearbox is suspected to adopt the AMT automatic transmission control system developed by Guizhou Honglin Machinery Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of AVIC, which is different from civilian models and more suitable for complex battlefield environments.

The cab of MV3 has two designs: single row and double row, with a simple and practical interior, which is in line with the core demand of high reliability for military vehicles. From the leaked photos, it can be seen that there is a liquid crystal display screen on the co-pilot position (specific function unknown), and a fully open sunroof on the top, which can adapt to various tactical tasks; the cab has a certain level of armor protection, and there is a hatch on the roof, which can be used to mount machine guns and other defensive equipment.

In terms of off-road performance, the MV3 6×6 version adopts a three-section drive shaft design, which can balance the front and rear axle loads and simplify the transfer case structure; the drive axle adopts a portal full-independent design with full-time transfer function, which can maximize the ground clearance; the front and rear axles are equipped with double A-arm independent suspension and electronically controlled adjustable suspension system (EHS), which can automatically identify road flatness, sense load, adjust body height and shock absorption damping, ensuring tire grip and driving smoothness during extreme off-roading.

The vehicle is equipped with a standard central tire inflation and deflation system, matched with a dual-circuit air disc brake system, with wheel speed identification and vehicle speed estimation functions. The driver can adjust the pressure of all or individual wheels when driving or stationary; even if the tire is pierced by a bullet, it can continue to drive through continuous inflation, greatly improving the battlefield survivability.

Due to the confidentiality requirements of military equipment, few relevant configuration parameters of MV3 under Faw Military Trucks are public, and only core information can be understood through a small amount of public data and leaked photos. This model has overcome seven major performance control difficulties, including drive system torque distribution control, AMT complex road strategy control, high and low temperature and plateau adaptability control. It marks that FAW has returned to the production field of military off-road vehicles after nearly 20 years, and the product performance has achieved a qualitative leap compared with the active old models, which will play an important role in China’s national defense modernization drive.
